The excellence of Bandag retreads is a direct result of Bandag’s sophisticated and highly standardised Retreading Process. State-of-the-art technology builds accuracy and efficiency into every step. Our patented Bandag process is geared towards restoring the original performance level of your tyres while ensuring consistency and reliability, each and every time.

Step 1 – Initial Inspection

First, your casings are thoroughly inspected to ensure they meet our high retreading standards. Our inspectors look for every cut, bruise, and puncture, as well as other damage to the tyre body. Repairs are made using strong, flexible Bandag repair materials.

Step 2 – Bandag Electronic Casing Inspection (ECI)

A pre-buff inspection that reduces costs as non-retreadable casing are removed sooner. ECI simply means Electronic Casing Inspector and has been developed to detect small tyre damage which is invisible to the operator.

Step 3 – Buffing

Buffing removes the old, worn tread design. The Bandag buffer works like a lathe as the tyre is buffed, truing your inflated casing with utmost precision. That means a smoother running retread to satisfy your drivers and reduce vehicle maintenance.

Step 4 – Repairs

Bandag repair materials are designed specifically for today’s new generation tyres. All repair procedures are an integral part of the total Bandag process. Nail hole injuries, crown injuries, and sidewall injuries can be repaired routinely.  You save more valuable casings.

Step 5 – Skiving

During the skiving process, any superficial damages to the casing are carefully cleaned out. If required, section repairs will also be made at this stage. This is also the moment when the Bandag operator can “save” your casing asset from the scrap pile. This process step serves a double purpose. It ensures that the casing is totally clean and ready to be retreaded, but it also guarantees that your retread will stay in good shape until the end of its new life… ready for possibly yet another retreading process!

Step 6 – Building

Bandag bonds new tread rubber to your casing using a low curing temperature. Your tyre is encased in a flexible rubber envelope and placed in a pressure chamber to cure. No excessive heat or rigid metal molds means your casings avoid the stress associated with other retreading processes.

Step 7 – Curing

Step 8 – Final Inspection

Every Bandag retread we produce is thoroughly inspected before it leaves our shop. The last place we want to discover a tyre problem is after the tyre is back in service. We’re sure you would agree!
